Staking guide

The prescription for staking.

Everything you need to stake THETA to the Guardian or TFUEL to an Elite Edge Node. It takes a few minutes, it all happens in your own wallet, and you stay in control of your stake.

Copy the summary into the official Theta Wallet. Never a mnemonic. A holder summary is public and safe to paste. Your mnemonic, keystore file, private key and wallet password are not, and nobody at Doctor Theta will ever ask for them.

Before you start

  • A Theta Wallet you control: the web wallet at wallet.thetatoken.org or the official Theta Wallet mobile app.
  • Enough THETA (1,000 or more) or TFUEL (10,000 or more) to meet the minimum.
  • A little extra TFUEL to cover the transaction fee.
  • Rewards and withdrawals always go back to the wallet you stake from, so stake from the wallet you intend to keep.

Stake THETA to the Guardian

  1. Copy the holder summary. Open the Guardian page and press Copy summary.
  2. Open Stakes. In the Theta Wallet, go to Stakes and choose Deposit Stake.
  3. Pick Guardian Node. Paste the summary into the Holder (Summary) field.
  4. Enter an amount. At least 1,000 THETA.
  5. Confirm. Check the details and submit. You can verify the transaction in the Theta block explorer using your wallet address.

Guardian rewards arrive as TFUEL. They are probabilistic, so small stakes can go a while between payouts. The Theta docs explain the details.

Stake TFUEL to an Elite Edge Node

  1. Choose a node. On Elite Edge, pick a node with enough room for your stake. On 500K Open, every node has the full 500,000.
  2. Copy the holder summary. Press Copy summary on that node's row.
  3. Open Stakes. In the Theta Wallet, go to Stakes, choose Deposit Stake, then Edge Node.
  4. Paste and enter an amount. Between 10,000 and 500,000 TFUEL per node, and no more than the room left on that node.
  5. Confirm. Press Deposit Stake. Rewards accrue back to the wallet you staked from.

Elite Edge or 500K Open?

Elite Edge

Nodes that are already staked and earning. Best when you want to add 10,000 TFUEL or more to a proven node. Watch the room column: a node near its 500,000 cap may not fit your amount.

500K Open

Nodes sitting at 0 TFUEL. Best for large stakes, up to the full 500,000 in a single node, or for anyone who would rather not share.

Unstaking

Only you can stake and unstake. To withdraw, open Stakes in the same Theta Wallet and withdraw from the node. The protocol applies an unstaking period before tokens return to your balance. For TFUEL on Edge Nodes the Theta docs list roughly 60 hours. Staked tokens can only be withdrawn to the wallet that staked them.
